About the Book
Call for Stories about LeadershipLegacy of Caring is pleased to call for stories to include in our second book Faith in Children: Stories of Leadership from Faith-Based Children’s Centers. This book will profile the work of leaders in faith-based preschools and child care programs.
Your stories may come in many forms, from short anecdotes to extensive narratives. Some may be letters from parents. Others might be reflections by colleagues, including fellow administrators or teachers.
We will gladly receive your contribution in any form — handwritten or typed. Alternatively, if you do not have the time or desire to write a story especially for us, we also welcome highlighted copies of newsletters or reports that contain a compelling story about your leadership with children and families.
Send them to Legacy of Caring by postal or electronic mail. We will acknowledge every contribution received and we will do our best to include as many as possible. It is our intent that publishing your story will bring recognition to you and your program, as well as honor the work of your center and your congregation’s service to families.
If you want to share about your work but are not a writer, we will serve as the author of your story. We will talk with you in person or on the telephone to gather information, stories, anecdotes, quotations and illustrations to weave into a chapter for Faith in Children: Stories of Leadership from Faith-Based Children’s Centers. The entire process typically spans six weeks and requires four-five hours of your time (including telephone conversations, e-mail exchanges or correspondence, and reviewing drafts.)
If you have a suggestion of someone whose leadership should be profiled in this book, you are welcome share this request with them. You may also contact Roberta Owens at Legacy of Caring with information about them. She will follow up by telephoning them to introduce this project and inquire about their work – a conversation that usually takes ten minutes.
Legacy of Caring is a fledgling 501(c)(3) all-volunteer organization, so we can not offer compensation or stipends. It is our plan to use our profits from the sales of books and related activities (workshops, consultations, customized publications) to fund innovative projects in faith-based children’s centers and, in turn, publish the results of these projects to inspire other congregations and children’s programs. Our plan is for book three to focus on facilities and book four on stewardship and financial management.
